SAET implemented a 5 MW/10 MWh turnkey battery energy storage system (BESS) for ENGIE, using lithium-ion technology. This system supports a 4.5 MWp photovoltaic plant and provides interruptibility services, compliant with Terna’s latest grid code update (Annex A.40). The innovative aspect is the BESS’s ability to instantly inject power into the grid on demand, stabilizing it during peak moments. Once limited to large industrial plants, BESS units can now participate, enhancing national grid security. SAET, with Energy Team, handled design and implementation, including technical and economic assessments. The Pontinia BESS is the first in Italy to offer this service.
